About the Author

Helen Bolton wanted to be a mathematics teacher since she was in the sixth grade. True enough, as soon as she graduated from Texas Tech University, she began teaching there while she earned her Master of Arts degree. She has taught sixteen courses in five disciplines while working with students from grade 5 through college juniors in settings as diverse as American schools overseas to Texas youth correctional facilities stateside. She taught fifteen years and served another fifteen years as an administrator in Port Arthur Independent School District.

In Port Arthur, Texas, Helen was active at First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess, a member and soloist of the Chancel Choir. She served as a Volunteer Minister for over eight years at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. While teaching Sunday school, she began writing inspirational poetry which she made into bookmarks and gave to class members, friends, teachers, staff, and administrators. In 1996 she wrote and published her first book of inspirational poetry. The church supported her ministry covering it with prayer and paying for the cost of over six hundred books that she gave the women who attended the worship services at the unit. She has self-published over ten books.

In August 2005, Helen and Alvin, her husband, retired and moved to central Texas. They bought 19.45 acres of land where they built a log home, planted a Pecan grove, and raise goats. Alvin let Helen live in her home town for twenty-five years and live her dream. Now, they are in the country, working the land. They never dreamed they could be so blessed.

When they first met, Alvin asked her if she was a women’s libber. She said, “No, I don’t want to drive a tractor and I like for gentlemen to open the door for me.” Now, you can often find her on their tractor shredding Cline grass on their land. She has apologized for lying about not liking to drive a tractor. Being a city girl she never knew how much fun it was to drive one until they moved to the country.

Alvin and Helen joined the First Christian Church. They both serve on the church board. Helen joined the Christian Women's Fellowship and sings in the choir. They praise the Lord for the good life He has given them.
